Eva's Story - Our Appeal to You!!!

Eva knew that she needed help, when her boyfriend slapped her face and crashed her cell on several different occasions.  But he always apologized and promised that he would change.  And she believed him.

Two years ago, when they met, she fell in love.  He was caring and nice.  But after a while she started to think that he was overprotective. She was not allowed to make a decision by herself.  He did not like when she was calling her daughter or mother in Poland.  The abuse worsened, when he lost his job.  He started drinking every day.  He was jealous of her male colleagues at work, school, or even her male cousin.  She broke up with him a couple of times, but he always managed to convince her that he would change.  Until she could not bear his cruelty.  She finally told him she did not want to see him anymore.

Late in the evening that day, she was watching a movie, when she heard a noise outside of her garden apartment.  When she looked outside, she saw him completely drunk.  He tried to enter her apartment through the window.  They started to struggle, but he pushed her away and entered inside.  He started throwing things around the home.  When Eva tried to escape, he blocked the door.  Eva grabbed her phone and locked herself in the bathroom.  She selected the last call in her cell and not knowing who she was dialing started screaming for help.  But he broke the door, grabbed her by her throat and pushed her toward the bedroom.

Next thing she remembered were police officers walking him out of her apartment.  It turns out it was Eva’s friend, who answered the phone, and hearing her screaming for help, called the police and reported the incident.

Our counselors assisted the survivor during the interrogations at the police station.  We helped her in obtaining an order of protection in criminal court and in petitioning for U Visa, as the undocumented victim of crime.  Eva still attends the group counseling.  She feels safe, because the abuser was imprisoned and is awaiting deportation.

Thanks to an anonymous amazing donor, whom we recently secured, you can help Eva and other women and children.  Your donation will be matched dollar for dollar, automatically doubling the impact of your gift to benefit our domestic violence program.  With the help of our counseling, Eva started on the road to a new life for herself, went back to English classes and found employment.

Will you help us meet the challenge so more women and children can receive the help they desperately need?
