Chase away the winter blues and gobble up!

Join us in celebrating Fat Thursday, a traditional Polish feast marking the end of  Carnival. Chase away the winter blahs at the Polish American Association's Pączki Day Fundraiser on Fat Thursday, February 12th, 2015 and Fat Tuesday, February 17th, 2015.

On Fat Thursday, February 12th and Fat Tuesday, February 17, 2015 the PAA staff will sell pączki from Oak Mill Bakery at ten locations throughout the city and suburbs for $3 each. On Fat Thrusday only, there will be special jewelry prizes in some of the paczki, courtesy of Adam's Jewelry. Paczki for the American traditional Fat Tuesday will be by advanced order only and all orders must be placed by February 5.

It goes back to a Catholic tradition: on the last Thursday of Carnival, the faithful have the right to stuff themselves. The reason for making pączki was to use up all the lard, sugar, eggs, and fruit in the house, because they were forbidden by Catholic fasting practices. Large amounts of calories is the point of the Fat Thursday. It is the last chance to party before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent.

No one can resist delicious pączki, chubby fry cakes, fist-size doughnuts with a choice of rosehip marmalade and candied orange peel, prune, raspberry, and custard fillings, dusted with confectioners’ sugar or glazed with icing. The doughnuts are gobbled up immediately, but you will be contributing to a lasting change in the lives of PAA’s clients. An old Polish proverb states, “If you don’t eat at least one doughnut on Fat Thursday, you will not be successful in the New Year”.

To order pączki please download the order form HERE (Adobe Acrobat required) or visit us at any location listed below on Thursday, February 12. PAA Employees and Volunteers will be selling pączki only on February 12 (Fat Thursday) but you can order pączki and have them delivered to you also on February 17, 2015 (Fat Tuesday).
