July 4th - More than Fireworks and Barbeques
On July 4, 1776, our Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence proclaiming our freedom from foreign rule and promising all Americans the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. But what about the slaves brought to America against their will, and denied those inalienable rights? For 244 years, our fellow Americans have endured slavery, Jim Crow, and systemic racism. They have fought bravely in every war, contributed mightily to every area of our national life, and persisted in their fight for full equality through failed initiatives, that every now and then, acknowledged their plight.
This year has been an extraordinarily difficult year; a year of reckoning. This Saturday, on July 4, let us acknowledge that we must join the struggle to become a more perfect union and wipe from every institution and every heart the senseless racism that undermines the promise of our grand democratic experiment.
On July 4, 2020, the PAA commits itself and its resources to ensuring that all those who continue to come to America seeking a better life, have the support they require to achieve their American Dream. 4 lipca 1776 Ojcowie Założyciele podpisali Deklarację Niepodległości ogłaszając naszą wolność od obcej władzy i obiecując wszystkim Amerykanom prawo do życia, wolności i poszukiwania szczęścia. Ale co możemy powiedzieć o niewolnikach przywiezionych do Ameryki wbrew ich woli i pozbawionych tych niezbędnych praw?? Przez 244 lata nasi współrodacy w Ameryce byli poddani niewolnictwu, prawu Jim Crow i systemowemu rasizmowi. Walczyli dzielnie w każdej wojnie, przyczyniali się walnie do każdej dziedziny życia naszego narodu i nie ustępowali w swojej walce o równe prawa w wielu inicjatywach, które pokazywały ich trudną sytuację.

En el 4 de julio de 1776, nuestros Padres Fundadores firmaron la Declaración de Independencia proclamando nuestra libertad de la actuación extranjera y prometiendo todos los americanos el derecho de la vida, la libertad y la búsqueda de la felicidad. Pero ¿qué hay de los esclavos que estuvieron traídos a América en contra de su voluntad y estuvieron negados estos derechos inalienables? Por 244 años, nuestros conciudadanos americanos han sufrido la esclavitud, el régimen de Jim Crow y el racismo sistémico. Ellos han luchado valientemente en cada guerra, han contribuido extremadamente a cada campo de nuestra vida nacional y han persistido en su lucha por la igualdad completo por iniciativas infructuosas que, de tanto en tanto, reconocieron su aprieto.
Este año ha sido un año extraordinariamente duro: un año del Juicio. Este sábado, en el 4 de julio, permítanos reconocer que necesitamos unirnos a la lucha para convertirse en una unión más perfecta y borrar de cada institución y cada corazón el racismo insensato que socava la promesa de nuestro grande experimento democrático.
