The Polish American Association Receives the Lloyd Fry Foundation Grant

October 7, 2021

The Polish American Association has received a $35,000 grant from the Lloyd A. Fry Foundation for the current year. With these funds, the PAA is able to support the Career Navigator Program whose goal is to help students pursuing the Certified Nursing Assistant certification navigate personal as well as educational and professional challenges. The Career Navigator provides a critical resource, that is individual professional mentoring, which enables the clients to build on their early accomplishments by raising expectations and self-confidence, and providing the means to achieve them. The Lloyd A. Fry Foundation grant provides the foundation upon which our work can continue; creating opportunities to inspire and influence a consistently underemployed segment of the immigrant population, now facing even greater challenges caused by the new COVID-19 reality.

We are extremely grateful to the Lloyd A. Fry Foundation for the award. For more information on this project, please contact the Polish American Association at (773) 282-8206. With gratitude,

The Polish American Association

PAA Supports The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

July 22, 2021

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy was created in 2012 during the Presidency of Barack Obama. The policy has protected around 800,000 young immigrants, known as DREAMers. On July 16th, 2021, a federal judge in the Southern District of Texas has ruled that DACA “is illegal.” It is important to note that this court ruling does not affect current DREAMers, but it has consequences for thousands of young immigrants as their future becomes unclear. Nine years after the creation of the DACA Program, Congress has still not provided DREAMers with a clear path to becoming American citizens. The Department of Justice has announced that it is going to appeal this ruling. However, only Congress can guarantee a steady and clear path to citizenship for the DACA recipients who deserve the promise of safe and secure future. The Polish American Association is urgently requesting Congress to pass the American Dream and Promise Act. Living in fear is not part of the American Dream, and we sincerely hope that Congress will provide security and safety to all DREAMers, in accordance with the United States Constitution.

The Chicago Society Foundation for PAA

November 16, 2020

For many years the Chicago Society Foundation has been a steadfast champion of the Polish American Association’s many programs, including the Families in Crisis, victims of domestic abuse, and the homeless shelter. Thanks to the support of the Chicago Society Foundation, our Clinical Services Department provided a safe space for homeless men, and traumatized victims and their children where they received intensive mental health, substance abuse, and victim violence counseling. We are enormously grateful for the help we received from the Chicago Society Foundation over the years that has allowed us to provide assistance and counseling to the most vulnerable members of our community. That support has been critical in addressing their needs. One of the areas which the PAA has to quickly update and improve, is its records keeping systems, Electronic Health Record. The Chicago Society Foundation has provided the PAA with funds to help underwrite the cost of purchasing and building the Electronic Health Records system, which will enable us to appropriately serve clients without stable homes, as well as victims of domestic violence. The PAA is deeply grateful for the Foundation’s generosity and friendship.
